Creating

While Kaitlynn continues to delight me with her art, Todd and I continue working on our home. It's not forever, but the bathroom flooring and white paint on the walls sure helps to make the tile around the bathtub tolerable. Now, what on earth to with the vanity??? I'm thinking. I'm thinking. I will continue to think. Meanwhile, seriously - look at what Kaitlynn did!

As Promised

I actually stuck to my goal of working on photos this morning! I could have been decorating the house for Christmas, which I'm certain I'll be doing later because it's too darn cold to spend much time outside. I did all of these photos with my 50mm lens. My straight shooter, and they turned out not too bad. I didn't have too much noise, although I had some problems with clarity. Anyway, the topic is about Kaitlynn's 17th birthday. She stayed home from school on the morning of Friday, December 6th, but went in for lunch with her friends, and took in her afternoon classes. She spent the night at Maddie's and was home by 2pm on Saturday.  Loretta drove up from Regina, and we had a simple meal of perogies, sausage and of course, cake. She received money and gifts for her new apartment in the summer - oven mitts, dish towels and frying pans. She'll be taking a lot of hand-me-downs, but some things are just better new. These represente...

The First Step

Having a dream is an admirable thing, pursuing it is an exceptional situation. The opportunity to design a tattoo for a commission came while working the daycare table at the Theodore craft fair. Funny enough, the other girl's name is Kaitlynn too, although I seriously doubt that's how she spells it. Communicating via the ever useful text message, the girls worked out what Caitlin (preferred spelling Todd!) was envisioning for her next bit of ink. And it's really something!!! Todd finally got to Kaitlynn's 'Exit' sign that she picked up many moons ago from VV. She loves it, and I'm sure its already long life has been expanded by many more years.

Kaitlynn, Cats and One Dog

Image
There has never been a time when our household has not had a pet. Even when first married, we had Junior. So it's no surprise how much our kids love animals. Kaitlynn in particular, has made it central to her life. Cats and sometimes dogs are central in her art and writing. Most recently she created this fantastically interesting mask. I'm not sure if it's for Halloween or just for kicks, but it is awesome. In the other photos, each kitty is taking their turn getting a pea from Kaitlynn's soup.

Home Harvest

Image
Yesterday and today have been busy. I got the potatoes and carrots out of the ground and had some help picking them up at the end of the day. Today I cleaned off the sugar pumpkins, about 144 in all.   Tomorrow, I will take off as many gourds and pumpkins as I can.  Snow in the short-term forecast has my panties in a knot!  Fred was fairly certain there would be no combining today, but Todd is out there straight-cutting oats. Hopefully, he can work quite late, but the temperature dropped very fast once the sun went down. I went for a short round with him when I took him his dinner. Jared has had his third piano lesson already, and has picked some lovely pieces this year.

Driving

Damn! So close! Kaitlynn very nearly had that licence in hand on September 18th, but just a couple of silly mistakes due to nerves, no doubt, held her back. But she's getting so close, that she is getting very serious about organizing her own car. She would really like, for the time being, to run around in Auntie Annette's old Sable.  It has just been sitting at the farm, left to the mice, and so the plan is to get it cleaned up, and use it as our old beater. Well, mostly her old beater for now. Eventually, we hope she'll take the more reliable Cruze and the old one will pass down to Todd as the farm car. Wallace St. is gorgeous with all it's overhanging trees. Waiting so very nervously for the fourth road test.

Roadside Visit

If a cat is on the side of the road and hasn't completely disappeared when the car comes near, it is damn near impossible to convince Kaitlynn not to stop and give it some love. This was the case with kitten that lives somewhere near (maybe with) my cousin on the Springside grid. What a cute, and friendly this little one is. A lovely tortoiseshell that made us a few minutes late meeting Aunty Booboo in Springside. Aunty completely understood. Of course.
