Fall Fun

Image
Just a few photos from around the house and yard to celebrated my favourite time of year.  Now, if only the weather would cooperate...

Gourds Galore

I took an afternoon and pushed my way around the gourd patch to see what surprises awaited me. I wasn't disappointed in the variety, and had a great time transforming the front door area and adding them to the fall décor inside.

Marshmallow World

All sorts of things have been going on around here.  We didn't feel like were into that much of a hurry to get the yard ready for winter, but we just barely got done when the white stuff started to pile up. And now, we have about a foot of it and we're not even through the first week of November. It looks so gorgeous out there, and somehow, the snow makes it feels warmer out there.  Maybe it is just that cold temperatures are more acceptable when the world is white.   Jared is having some fun here with his little origami boat. This picture does not do those flames justice. They were high and they were hot. Todd just drives along the swath lighting it up with a torch as he goes. KK wanted here hair dyed red and turned out more orange.  We spent an entire morning trying to get it out. We even tried bleach.  For a temporary colour, it sure did take. Guess the weight and win the pumpkin at Save On Foods. Jared said no to this costu...

Falling Back

Image
Setting my sights on a new goal has my attention focused elsewhere, and as such, my day-to-day blog has suffered some. So get ready for a photo-heavy post.   As far as we know, the kiddos are both doing well in school.  Kaitlynn is as last year, excited and working hard. Jared's approach is less enthusiastic. He really does not like having the Grade 4's in his classroom and now they may have to have gym class with the Grade 3's tossed in. He is not interested, though in transferring schools to be among more kids his own age. He's excited for high school where things will be normal. I  hope he has the same shift in attitude that Kaitlynn experienced.   Jared wasn't really looking overly forward to his overnight canoe trip, but he ended up having a really good time and is looking forward to his week-long camping trip in the Spring.   Our Fall has been a beautiful one. The mild temperatures, it's October 4th and we still haven't had a major frost,...

Slowing Down

Image
Kaitlynn continues to be her crazy, entertaining self.  She spent a lot of this past sporting an Edward Cullen mask.  Creepy as hell, and hilarious at the same time. I'm not sure what the plan is, but several of the masks have made their way to school this morning.   I was feeling quite rundown yesterday, with a sore throat, so I tried to take it easy. Jared was also extra-tired and had a nice long nap midday and he went to bed early. He seems fine this morning.   The yard, although everything is drying up, looks lovely. The early morning and evenings are my favourite time to go out and have a walk around.   Harvest is sailing right along, although as of today, they will be feeling the pressure.  Rain is on the horizon, and there are still 5 quarters to do before the flax - 2 of oats, which they hopefully finish today and 3 of canola. They're definitely not in bad shape, but it would be fantastic if they could get all 5 off before any major rai...
