During and After the Storm

Image
Dad had plenty of opportunity to teach son how to properly shovel a deck and driveway. They were no fewer than four times. We're guessing that about 7 - 8 inches fell from mid-morning to early evening.  Todd is never more grateful for that little, blue tractor and giant snow blower than when so much snow has fallen. It saves a lot of work. Snowshoes were essential for a walk around the yard this morning. It's quite a workout lugging those things around, especially when they get heavy with snow.  What's great about the snow is the landscape. It's absolutely beautiful with its fresh coat of pure white. It had been looking dreadful for weeks.

Snow Hill!!!

We're nearing the end of winter, but we finally got some snow and it is not too late to play in it.  Daddy gets to break in his new snow blower and Jared gets to play "King of the Mountain!" And Mom just takes the photos.  It is nice to have something to take a photo of.  The landscape has been so very dreary up to this point.  The crisp, clean white of the fresh, deep snow is completely refreshing.  There is a visible smile on Dad's face as he sees his efforts have paid off...

Marshmallow World

All sorts of things have been going on around here.  We didn't feel like were into that much of a hurry to get the yard ready for winter, but we just barely got done when the white stuff started to pile up. And now, we have about a foot of it and we're not even through the first week of November. It looks so gorgeous out there, and somehow, the snow makes it feels warmer out there.  Maybe it is just that cold temperatures are more acceptable when the world is white.   Jared is having some fun here with his little origami boat. This picture does not do those flames justice. They were high and they were hot. Todd just drives along the swath lighting it up with a torch as he goes. KK wanted here hair dyed red and turned out more orange.  We spent an entire morning trying to get it out. We even tried bleach.  For a temporary colour, it sure did take. Guess the weight and win the pumpkin at Save On Foods. Jared said no to this costu...

Bear Bear

"I have found that when you are deeply troubled, there are things you get from the silent devoted companionship of a dog that you can get from no other source." - Doris Day Snows on his nose. I especially love when in the middle of a steady paced walk, Bear suddenly turns back to me for no apparent reason, and presses himself against my legs, stopping me in my tracks.  It's his way of giving a hug.  Sometime he does it several times during a walk, so often that it can (almost) get irritating. Other times, there are no hugs.  I have not been able to pick out a pattern, but I savour these moments with him.  My absolute favourite is when he lifts a front paw and wraps it around my shin.  That's a really intense hug, and then I give him a good scratch on his sides, causing one of his back legs to thump. I love how we understand each other now.  It was worth working with him through those few crazy puppy years.

New Year's Day

A long morning walk.   Bear loves when we get past the 3/4 mile mark.  He's hoping to see the neighbor's dogs. Daddy showing son how it's done. Lots of time was spent outside today, including an early evening walk.  The sun sets around 5pm. Kitty love.  Smiles.
