Spring Bliss

Image
On days after I've nearly killed myself working on the yard and the place starts to take shape - days when I feel I have some time to just sit and enjoy, life makes sense. Sometimes it's a feeling that only lasts for the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, but once in awhile, it can last an entire day. Today was one of those days. The grass was mowed, the trimming done, the veggies in the ground and even some weeding has been taken care of. The icing on the cake is the weather we had today. It all came together and for a moment, I enjoyed myself. The rainbow was yesterday or maybe the day before. It was a short, but perfect moment.

And Now I Don't Know Where May Is Going

Image
Life is flying by this Spring. Before we know it, summer will have come and gone and winter will be here again to last for an eternity. There's a cheerful thought I'm not supposed to be allowing myself. Before that happens, there will be some picnics in the field,  some yard work, (I've been doing plenty of that) and hopefully a bit of fun here and there. I've visited the greenhouses and have added to the thousand plus plants I started myself. When planting time comes around, I will be busy for many days, maybe even weeks.  Picnic time over. Back to work. Beano at Skinner's greenhouse. Garry's sweet little pups. My pallet project. Meh. Cookies. For those picnics.

I Don't Know Where April Went

Image
May has arrived, and it's been nearly a month since I last posted here. Life hasn't been easy lately, but losing nearly an entire month seems unlikely and unreasonable. The weather has been decent lately, and that has me feeling a little better. I especially love my long morning walks with Bear before breakfast. Often, that's when it's the most peaceful outside, low winds, hardly any vehicles making noise on the roads. Quiet. Also, I've been in my greenhouse lately and that is another of solitude for me. I made it even better by adding a little place to have tea. I don't know why I didn't think of that sooner. A few crocuses are up in the garden, along with a gazillion daylilies. I really have to start finding new homes for them. I had my first wood tick yesterday. Disgusting. Field work has started on the farm, and I will try not to let that add to the stress of the current situation. Just day by day, one foot in front of the other. I'm beginning to un...

April Beginnings

Image
After March gave us a little Spring teaser, April showed up with cold winds and snow. Typical, but unwelcomed nonetheless. Spending time indoors means extra cleaning, cooking, and getting creative. I'm all caught up with the trim work and am waiting on Todd to get more up so I can continue my patch and paint routine. Hauling grain (which is great!) has been keeping him busy all these past days though. Kaitlynn has been working a lot. This week, she'll put in 36 hours. She's not really happy unless she's working, so it is a good thing even though it's risky with this virus floating around. Jared is doing well with the schedule I drew up for him and is keeping up with the assignments being posted in all of his classes. I am (as usual) doing all sorts of things. All sorts of farm housewifey things. Cooking, cleaning, starting seeds, reading, baking, blogging, budgeting, and crafting. Most of the crafting has gone well, but there is that one critter...I don't know ...

March Melt

We've been out enjoying the warm patch of weather before it cools back down again in a couple of days. Bear is especially appreciative of having access to water everywhere we go. Our two temporary ponds have connected enough that I can't walk between them with my everyday winter boots anymore. We don't have much snow, so unless we get some serious rain, the water will disappear quickly.

In Memory Of a Beautiful Friend

Talk about Hell Week. Root canal on Saturday, Mark gets sent back to Calgary from Regina on Monday morning due to Covid-19, school gets cancelled Monday afternoon, and then Crushy really starts to fall ill and dies on Friday morning (March20th). It can only go up from here, right?  But anyway, what to say about this kitty that showed up in our yard the summer we moved in? Well, first of all, having been raised by his mother outside well into the winter, he was about the fluffiest little thing you can imagine. Good God! - he was a cutie. I tried to get him into the house by grabbing him off the deck one day. We had a heated house for the cats on the deck. Crush, his Mama and an old Tom we called Goliath used it. We assume Goliath was Daddy. Well, like most cats, things have to happen on their own terms, and when I grabbed him, he bit down very hard on my thumb. So hard, that I dropped him and he ran off. I kept feeding them and keeping an eye on them, and then one day, close to...

Despite it All

My mouth had been giving me trouble, and all the pain killers were kind of messing with me, so when my dentist offered to do an emergency root canal on Saturday, March 14 - the night before Mr. Handsome's birthday, I went for it. It was bad. It took forever and it hurt, but it was done. I wasn't in great shape the next day either, but I somehow pulled through. I managed to bake a cake and put together a pretty decent meal. Thankfully, Todd wanted to stay home that day to prepare the shop for Mark's upcoming visit, so I could take my time.
