Harvest Beginnings

Image
Harvest has now officially started because I had dinner in the field with Todd. It turned into a 2 and a half hour affair when I had to drive him out to help Glen who is harvesting the peas and trying to operate the new straight-cut header.  It's not going very well for him.  Hopefully he catches on before he causes any major, expensive damage.  Slowly adding jars of pickles to the cold room. Going out to clean off the peas. The garden in the evening, just after sunset.

Feeding Time

Image
It's the exact same scene twice a day, first when they come in from the garage in the morning and again in the middle of the afternoon. We, myself and the the 3 kitties head to the bathroom where Sooty gets fed. There he does his little dance against the door frame and I gush over him every time because this never gets old, then I feed him and call Crush and Georgia to follow. Georgia is usually way ahead while Crush usually needs more coaxing and time to lick the showers edge. Once in the  kitchen, it is Georgia's turn. She always points with her nose to her empty bowl, showing me where to put her food, which is very helpful. Crushy watches closely and then quickly turns around and meows until his bowl gets the same treatment.  At about 2pm, they all congregate in the kitchen. Sooty often making weird noises and everyone staring at me until the above procedure us repeated. Everyday. And I look forward to these 3 goofballs everyday.

Milestone

Kaitlynn had her first day of work yesterday and it went well. She got to work with Shauna and even for to take her lunch break at her friend's house. I don't envy KK having to wear those very heavy, black, polyester pants on hot days, but she did okay. Mama bird is busy working on hatching her 4 eggs. I can't wait to see those 4 little fluffballs running around.

Good Bye January

Image
A particularly rough January has passed, and I feel like we are just a short hop - skip - jump to Spring. But even through the thick fog of the past month, there were some good moments.  Kitty love. As it turns out, drones are a lot of fun. Getting some kitty love. If we could all be as awesome as Bob Ross. Loves the rides to school, but not the hugs so much. Super chill. Clash overkill. Coffee brewing usually means it's time to go clean or haul grain. Stupid "Clan Games" has us back at it again...

Catch-Up

Image
It's Wednesday, but it feels like a Sunday.  We're smack-dab in the middle of Easter break and we are having a very nice little staycation.  The weather was gorgeous yesterday and I took KK into town to buy shoes and a new jacket for Spring. We found her a great denim that will be the home for her new interest in pins. That collection started when we were at the farm and Grandma pulled out an old suitcase of her Mom's stuff that she wanted us to chose items from.  Jared took a leaf plate, Todd a butterfly jewelry box, (which is really more mine) and KK took some coins and a few pins.   Anyway, before we left Yorkton, we picked up Sophie and the girls enjoyed a fantastic afternoon outside.  The weather was so mild, barely any wind and being in a t-shirt was quite comfortable. After spending some time on the roof, they took a long walk East.  When they got back, we cancelled our indoor dinner plans and replaced them with roasted smokes around the fire. T...

An Evening Walk

Image
There are 4 shadows.  One is the dog.  Someone is missing.  Or should I say, we have one extra?  Or maybe two extra, as I am usually by myself on these strolls.  It is so nice to have the light after dinner now. And also, I caught a cute picture of Sooty squeaking at the robins on the lawn.

Early Birthdays

Image
Invited to the farm for dinner on Saturday, March 4th, Todd and I were under the impression that it was a birthday get-together for my 41st.  It turned out to be for both of us, as Fred and Diana are leaving for Mexico on the 13th and will not be here for Todd's 43rd on the 15th.  It was nice, as always and we ate too much, as usual.  Kaitlynn had a nice, long visit with Boots who I could have sworn was a lady kitty, but turned out I was way off.  Now everyone can't stop calling her "she."  Charlie is still a beautiful cat, but his age has suddenly caught up with him.

A Secret Meeting

Image
It was a pretty morning, pretty cold and it was pretty because the sun was shining and it is always nice to have blue skies in the winter.  I braved the cold and took Bear and myself for some exercise and all went well until he picked up a sniffing job. The fresh trail of a deer had him wanting to pull me down the road. But we managed and he calmed down once we turned back for home.  The countryside looks clean with the fresh snowfall, and the road isn't nearly as icy, but poor Bear gets ice-balls stuck in between his toes.  Then we have to stop while he chews them out, or I help dig them out for him.  They get pretty big sometimes and I can see how they would become very uncomfortable.       I came home and quickly put on the kettle like I always do when I get in from the cold. I looked around while I was waiting for it to come to a boil, and noticed that something was out of place. Three things actually.  Where were the cats...

Sunday At Home

Image
Jared decided to sort through his books today, and boy did he ever free up some space! He called Auntie Brenda to see if she would "Chirp" magazines along with the books, and she did, so they got packed up too.  Before that though, Jared and I took a trip down memory lane.  He used to love "The Vole Brothers", and we would often skip those pages first before looking through the rest of the magazine. We got such a kick out those two little cuties. It was decided this was a memory we could hold on to with a photo. I printed pictures off pretty much all day long. With nearly 200 photos for the Nova Scotia album, I'm surprised my printer didn't go on strike.  I had to order more ink for when I get to work on Kaitlynn and Jared's albums.     Nine times out of ten, when crossing the landing, we have step over "sausage cat." He loves the heated floor, and it is nearly always on. He gets himself into some pretty weird positions a...
