Autumn Awesomeness

Image
You would think that all the pumpkins and gourds provided by the garden would be enough, but nope. I also love to crochet them and today, for the first time, I made one with the knitting needles. The smallest one here is a little smaller than a golf ball and as cute as a button. The problem is that if the cats find them, they think I made them a toy. But who can resist making wee thingies?  The driftwood I used in this photo is from Tuktoyaktuk and I intend to make a mobile or something with some of it. I collected some rocks from up there too, so it's just to figure out how to build it. It is only seven degrees there (Tuk) at the moment, but it's only 13 here. And it's windy, making what Piglet would call "a blustery day." Kaitlynn has been at work all day, but we're taking her into Yorkton later to stay with Sophie. So we'll probably end up at DQ. Jared was busy picking new songs for his Grade 7 year.  He's bucking a little, but nothing we can...

Visitors

We picked up Ethan and Elise in Yorkton on the 25th of August.  The plan was to spend lots of time crafting with Elise while the boys did their thing - video games (mostly). We succeeded in the crafting department and sent quite a few items home with Elise. I spent a lot of time getting her started on learning to crochet. She had brought some shells that she had recently picked while visiting her Auntie Jonie, so we scoured the yard for a few rocks and I fashioned a mobile connected with wire for her. We made paper worms and had "nermal races". We included the boys in playing a board game every night. Three nights of Carcassonne and 1 night of King of Tokyo. Elise doesn't take to losing easily, but in the end, she handled it okay. We all piled in the car on the morning of the 26th to take Jared to his school to get registered, so it was fun for the kids to see that. On the 27th we went out to the lake to visit Auntie Booboo and treated ourselves to some ice-cream. Th...

Falling Back

Image
Setting my sights on a new goal has my attention focused elsewhere, and as such, my day-to-day blog has suffered some. So get ready for a photo-heavy post.   As far as we know, the kiddos are both doing well in school.  Kaitlynn is as last year, excited and working hard. Jared's approach is less enthusiastic. He really does not like having the Grade 4's in his classroom and now they may have to have gym class with the Grade 3's tossed in. He is not interested, though in transferring schools to be among more kids his own age. He's excited for high school where things will be normal. I  hope he has the same shift in attitude that Kaitlynn experienced.   Jared wasn't really looking overly forward to his overnight canoe trip, but he ended up having a really good time and is looking forward to his week-long camping trip in the Spring.   Our Fall has been a beautiful one. The mild temperatures, it's October 4th and we still haven't had a major frost,...
