A Exceptional Find

Image
It was a cold morning. Cold for June that is. Five degrees with a fairly strong wind that made it feel barely above freezing. But determined to start my day out with a positive, I slapped my headphones on, and out I went. There were even a few raindrops, but the fresh air was energizing. Of course, Bear enjoys walking in cooler weather far more than the heat. We were out for a lot longer than we normally would because Bob and Bruce stopped for a chat and then Bob stopped again after dropping Bruce off. The highlight of this walk were the Lady's Slippers. I haven't seen them in years, so it was a special sighting. These are considered a rare flower, so this a noteworthy glimpse of an uncommon plant.

A Change of Scenery

While Todd and Jared worked on getting the snow cleared off from around the rings, I took Bear for a nice long walk. He was very interested in the new surroundings and was eager to walk me! I was concerned we might see a moose, but all we seen was a squirrel, a wood pecker and a lunatic robin. Yes, a robin, and yes, I'm sure. He was a rebel, breaking off from the crowd and going his own way. I hope he survives.  The sky really was that blue today!

An Evening Walk

There are 4 shadows.  One is the dog.  Someone is missing.  Or should I say, we have one extra?  Or maybe two extra, as I am usually by myself on these strolls.  It is so nice to have the light after dinner now. And also, I caught a cute picture of Sooty squeaking at the robins on the lawn.

A Secret Meeting

It was a pretty morning, pretty cold and it was pretty because the sun was shining and it is always nice to have blue skies in the winter.  I braved the cold and took Bear and myself for some exercise and all went well until he picked up a sniffing job. The fresh trail of a deer had him wanting to pull me down the road. But we managed and he calmed down once we turned back for home.  The countryside looks clean with the fresh snowfall, and the road isn't nearly as icy, but poor Bear gets ice-balls stuck in between his toes.  Then we have to stop while he chews them out, or I help dig them out for him.  They get pretty big sometimes and I can see how they would become very uncomfortable.       I came home and quickly put on the kettle like I always do when I get in from the cold. I looked around while I was waiting for it to come to a boil, and noticed that something was out of place. Three things actually.  Where were the cats...

A Lovely Start To Our Friday

Image
I love Friday mornings, particularly this Friday morning because I am ahead of my housework, the weather is mild enough to have enjoyed a nice, long walk.  Bear was easy on his leash, maybe he knows I've sprained my hand.  It is the four of us this evening, with our homemade pizza on the menu, and tomorrow is going to be great.  We are headed to Regina to take Auntie Loretta out for lunch as a big thank-you for all of her hard work with the kids on the piano.  Also, for the car ride, we are going to finally see what KK has been obsessing about for weeks and listen to the "Hamilton" musical. Jared, waking up slowly.  This little guy also loves his Fridays! On his way to the farm this morning, Mr. Handsome starts his day off with a warm bowl of oatmeal, and I know he's looking forward to pizza tonight.  I like the angle of this photo - look at those pipes! KK being weird, closes herself in the pantry to eat her banana. A cute capture of C...

Bear Bear

"I have found that when you are deeply troubled, there are things you get from the silent devoted companionship of a dog that you can get from no other source." - Doris Day Snows on his nose. I especially love when in the middle of a steady paced walk, Bear suddenly turns back to me for no apparent reason, and presses himself against my legs, stopping me in my tracks.  It's his way of giving a hug.  Sometime he does it several times during a walk, so often that it can (almost) get irritating. Other times, there are no hugs.  I have not been able to pick out a pattern, but I savour these moments with him.  My absolute favourite is when he lifts a front paw and wraps it around my shin.  That's a really intense hug, and then I give him a good scratch on his sides, causing one of his back legs to thump. I love how we understand each other now.  It was worth working with him through those few crazy puppy years.

New Year's Day

A long morning walk.   Bear loves when we get past the 3/4 mile mark.  He's hoping to see the neighbor's dogs. Daddy showing son how it's done. Lots of time was spent outside today, including an early evening walk.  The sun sets around 5pm. Kitty love.  Smiles.
