Welcome July

A Exceptional Find

Image
It was a cold morning. Cold for June that is. Five degrees with a fairly strong wind that made it feel barely above freezing. But determined to start my day out with a positive, I slapped my headphones on, and out I went. There were even a few raindrops, but the fresh air was energizing. Of course, Bear enjoys walking in cooler weather far more than the heat. We were out for a lot longer than we normally would because Bob and Bruce stopped for a chat and then Bob stopped again after dropping Bruce off. The highlight of this walk were the Lady's Slippers. I haven't seen them in years, so it was a special sighting. These are considered a rare flower, so this a noteworthy glimpse of an uncommon plant.

Late Spring Ruminations

It is the perfect day for blogging a wee bit about the past several days. Yesterday, I got the yard looking it's finest by doing the trimming and mowing. Day before that it rained, and today it rained again, and is threatening more thundershowers this afternoon. And I'm tired. I worked hard yesterday to see the yard completed, but I think the real culprit of my fatigue is the ice cream cone I ate just before bed last night. I never sleep well on a full stomach, let alone a stomach full of sugar. Lesson learned? - Probably not.  With the freshness of the rain and all of the blossoms on the lilacs, caragana and fruit trees, the air outside is intoxicating. You start to take a breath in through your nose, and when you catch the scent, don't want to stop inhaling. One could damn near explode their lungs with the desire. The early morning walks to the pond with Bear are a joy. Life is overflowing there with all of the different birds peeping their little hearts when we get ...

I Don't Know Where April Went

Image
May has arrived, and it's been nearly a month since I last posted here. Life hasn't been easy lately, but losing nearly an entire month seems unlikely and unreasonable. The weather has been decent lately, and that has me feeling a little better. I especially love my long morning walks with Bear before breakfast. Often, that's when it's the most peaceful outside, low winds, hardly any vehicles making noise on the roads. Quiet. Also, I've been in my greenhouse lately and that is another of solitude for me. I made it even better by adding a little place to have tea. I don't know why I didn't think of that sooner. A few crocuses are up in the garden, along with a gazillion daylilies. I really have to start finding new homes for them. I had my first wood tick yesterday. Disgusting. Field work has started on the farm, and I will try not to let that add to the stress of the current situation. Just day by day, one foot in front of the other. I'm beginning to un...

Happy 74!

It was quick and to the point because the boys were anxious to get to Canora to pick up their pea seed. It was a lovely cookie dough blizzard cake, but I liked the oreo one better. I have what I think are the crocus bulbs I planted in the fall. Diana doesn't think that's what they are, so I'll have to look it up.

Pre-Christmas Round-Up

Image
There is a lot going on in this post - birthday, recital, goofing off, etc.  All because, I'm not keeping on top of the blogging thing, but all is not lost, it is just congested. I'll have to another post shortly after this one, because as I'm writing this, the house is all decked out and I have not one picture of it yet. Anyway, as you can tell by the photos, life has been good lately. First of - goofiness, more creepy really... Shortly after this snowfall, a large snow blower for the tractor was purchased, and then the snow all but disappeared.  Enjoying the new landscape. The painted snowy spruce I did for our a good portion of our Christmas cards this year. I figured the blog needed a picture of its photographer here and there, so here I am sporting a new do. After Jared finished his Toronto puzzle (I helped a little), we went on a jigsaw spree. This was the first we did, and we were disappointed to find it was missing a piec...
