Redecorating

Big news today!!! The piano exam marks are in, and both the kids did very well.  KK aced Grade 5 with a 74 and Jared pulled of an 80 for his Grade 4.  What a relief to have that over and done with.  I hate waiting for those marks. KK has been spending a lot of time writing her story. Last I heard, she was working on chapter 3. She sure does love to write. It is warm out but very windy.  My Mom's old chimes that Todd fixed for me are just a singing away out there.  I like to be with them and imagine her listening to those same sounds back when she had them in her own yard. Ponyo is such a weird little fshish. Normally she just looks like she's dead just floating around upside down. Sometimes she lies on the bottom of the tank nestled into a little hollow in the rocks.  She's been acting like that for years, so who knows. Chocolate is just the same as always.  We still adore her completely and get such a kick out her.  I think it might be time to freshen up her

A Full Day

We had to have Sophie back in Yorkton for 11 am, so we all went in and after dropping off KK's friend, we took the kids to WalMart to get them a gift in honour of all the hard work they put in this past year on their piano. The marks aren't in yet, but I feel optimistic. Anyway,  Kaitlynn picked out a classy little table lamp for her bedside and a lava lamp to hypnotize herself with which is on her dresser.  Jared got a huge, (ugly) comfy beanbag chair. I told him that he has to take it with him when he moves out. Sadly, our wee Pooh Bear chair has to find a new home.  It has been with us, I think for as long as we've had children.         Here is a photo of the new pendant lights that we picked up on Wednesday and Todd installed on Thursday.  The more times I see them, the more I like them, much better suited to our style.       Sooty has fallen in love with the heat lamp.  He loves to go back out into the garage after his breakfast and sun h

It's been a busy few days.  I've started the Nova Scotia album, (pictures soon to come) and we spent the entire day out of the house yesterday when we drove Ang to Saskatoon. We dropped her off early at 11:30 in the hopes she might get in early, but no. No, not at all.  She was still waiting to hear what the heck was going on at 3:30 and by 4 her surgery was cancelled and she was sent home without even being rebooked.  Although her day was pretty much completely rotten, Todd and I had a fairly enjoyable time.  We ended up finally finding lights for above our island.  I should have a photo, but I don't. Oops. Feeling bad for my poor little svester, I wanted to get her a wee gift to lift her spirits when we went to pick her up.  Todd spotted these cute owl s+p  shakers. She was eager to get home and replace the Corona ones that Shawn has been using for over 20 years. Kaitlynn wrote her last exam this morning and said it went super smoothly.  Todd picked her up when

Sunday At Home

Jared decided to sort through his books today, and boy did he ever free up some space! He called Auntie Brenda to see if she would "Chirp" magazines along with the books, and she did, so they got packed up too.  Before that though, Jared and I took a trip down memory lane.  He used to love "The Vole Brothers", and we would often skip those pages first before looking through the rest of the magazine. We got such a kick out those two little cuties. It was decided this was a memory we could hold on to with a photo. I printed pictures off pretty much all day long. With nearly 200 photos for the Nova Scotia album, I'm surprised my printer didn't go on strike.  I had to order more ink for when I get to work on Kaitlynn and Jared's albums.     Nine times out of ten, when crossing the landing, we have step over "sausage cat." He loves the heated floor, and it is nearly always on. He gets himself into some pretty weird positions a

A Winter's Evening

All the house cleaning and purging finally lead me to recover the cushions on the couches downstairs. Well, actually we got rid of the hideous ones that came with the trio and I redecorated with some much better quality ones.  Todd helped picked out the fabrics, actually he mostly did it himself, and they work very nicely. Mostly though, Todd has been working to get his shop organized. We were also given a very old plaid wool blanket that belonged to Great Grandma Ostapovitch.  Todd was reminded of Uncle's house, so although it was very worn, I was able to find a decent section large enough to create a man-sized pillow for him. Somehow, I'm the one leaning on it this evening though. Jared used the scraps to make matching scarves for himself and Georgia.       While Kaitlynn had a very busy day of homework and volunteer hours to fill, Jared had a very relaxing day. Playing "Geometry Dash", watching "Invader Zim" and reading "Dilbert&quo

A Busy Day

The weather has been so gentle on us lately, but yesterday was the best day yet.  Todd took down on the rest of the Christmas lights, and cleaned up the cold room. I took Bear for 2 walks and took my sweet time doing my chores and enjoying the heat from the sun.  With no wind to steal the warmth, I didn't even need a toque or mitts.  The forecast is showing a cooling trend now, but it should still be fairly mild for a week or so.  It can't last forever, but then again, neither can the winter.   This morning, Todd and I had to go into Yorkton again to pick up food for our pets.  We were just there yesterday to take KK out for her ice-cream treat because she didn't come with us when we went after their piano exam on Tuesday, and both Todd and I forgot what we came in early for.  I think what threw us off, was shopping for fabric to recover cushions downstairs.  We found great fabrics at Collette's Sewing and I have been working on them this afternoon, eager to get th

KK's Room

I can only imagine what it would have been like to have a room of my own at 14 years old.  I'm sure I would have loved as Kaitlynn loves hers.  The joy she takes in her space shows in the details.  I could have taken many more, but here are just a few of her fortress of solitude. We looked and looked and eventually found a ships wheel that spins (kind of). Beautiful dragon sculptures done my little artist. We found this lovely globe at Home Sense in Lloydminster, it was instant love! And it does NOT need to be Halloween to enjoy it. Sprouts and kitties. A pocket watch, one of a few and the star dial I got her this past Christmas.  She loved it!

An Early Spring Cleaning

It's gorgeous out there! Shop and garage doors are open. Todd disappeared with the tractor. Bear has himself stretched out in the snow, trying to cool himself down.  It is still below zero, but barely and the forecast is for five degrees above for the next two days. After going through some books at Uncle's house, we brought home quite a few and so that inspired us to sort through some of our own. I am quite tempted to keep some of these baby books, but like Todd said, they are better off in circulation rather than being stored for goodness knows how many years in the garage, and then becoming too musty to actually be of any use.  I can get rid of the books without getting rid of the memories, so I took a few photos of the ones we read pretty much on a daily basis to the kidlets. Piles and piles of books to be given away.  Brenda will have a lot to chose from! "My Big Bright World" and "Animal Crackers" were in the nursery before KK was born and
