Rest - Kind Of

Image
I wasn't expecting my little sister to show up. Nor was I expecting to put her to work picking pumpkins, but that's what went down round here. Amy was here to supervise Ang after her shoulder surgery yesterday, and had some time to burn. It turned into a long day, as I picked from morning until nearly sunset with few breaks. Now, the greenhouse and garage are full, and with the freezing temperatures on the horizon, I have nothing to do with them all. Today, I  washed up a bunch and donated to the schools and the care home, and after Colleen bought a bag, I sold two more at the carehome.  So, I ended up being on my feet more than I wanted to today, just washing up gourds! But, maybe I'll try selling more online on local sites just in case the weather doesn't cooperate.

Home Harvest

Yesterday and today have been busy. I got the potatoes and carrots out of the ground and had some help picking them up at the end of the day. Today I cleaned off the sugar pumpkins, about 144 in all.   Tomorrow, I will take off as many gourds and pumpkins as I can.  Snow in the short-term forecast has my panties in a knot!  Fred was fairly certain there would be no combining today, but Todd is out there straight-cutting oats. Hopefully, he can work quite late, but the temperature dropped very fast once the sun went down. I went for a short round with him when I took him his dinner. Jared has had his third piano lesson already, and has picked some lovely pieces this year.

Humpty's Day

"I want the pancake," says Jared. He wants to go for breakfast and a drive. Who am I to say no. It really made me cram everything else I had to today, but it all got done and then some.  It's hard to believe that we are nearing the end of September and there are still so many blooms to be enjoyed. Even the evening scented stock is still making the night garden smell incredible.

Autumn Awesomeness

You would think that all the pumpkins and gourds provided by the garden would be enough, but nope. I also love to crochet them and today, for the first time, I made one with the knitting needles. The smallest one here is a little smaller than a golf ball and as cute as a button. The problem is that if the cats find them, they think I made them a toy. But who can resist making wee thingies?  The driftwood I used in this photo is from Tuktoyaktuk and I intend to make a mobile or something with some of it. I collected some rocks from up there too, so it's just to figure out how to build it. It is only seven degrees there (Tuk) at the moment, but it's only 13 here. And it's windy, making what Piglet would call "a blustery day." Kaitlynn has been at work all day, but we're taking her into Yorkton later to stay with Sophie. So we'll probably end up at DQ. Jared was busy picking new songs for his Grade 7 year.  He's bucking a little, but nothing we can&#

Fall Fun

Just a few photos from around the house and yard to celebrated my favourite time of year.  Now, if only the weather would cooperate...

Stormy Times

Image
Todd is in the field while I'm in the kitchen and hear a big BOOM from the basement. I go flying down the stairs to see what the hell happened and then quickly find a phone to call Todd and tell him that our pressure tank had exploded. That was at 5pm and we had a new tank installed by 9am the next morning, so we really didn't suffer all that much, if at all.  Being busy, Todd didn't do the best job of installing it off the start, but then the storm hit and oy! Rain, wind, and hail had us out and about over the next couple of days surveying the damage.  We were fairly lucky compared to some, and worse off compared to others. Near Ituna has nothing left to combine. Our oats are going to be a pain in the ass to get off, as they have been flattened. The canola shelled out some, though how much is difficult to say. This was taken the evening of the storm. Everyone was out working on getting the swathed wheat off. Jared and I went for a quick visit after his piano le

Driving

Damn! So close! Kaitlynn very nearly had that licence in hand on September 18th, but just a couple of silly mistakes due to nerves, no doubt, held her back. But she's getting so close, that she is getting very serious about organizing her own car. She would really like, for the time being, to run around in Auntie Annette's old Sable.  It has just been sitting at the farm, left to the mice, and so the plan is to get it cleaned up, and use it as our old beater. Well, mostly her old beater for now. Eventually, we hope she'll take the more reliable Cruze and the old one will pass down to Todd as the farm car. Wallace St. is gorgeous with all it's overhanging trees. Waiting so very nervously for the fourth road test.

Gourds Galore

Image
I took an afternoon and pushed my way around the gourd patch to see what surprises awaited me. I wasn't disappointed in the variety, and had a great time transforming the front door area and adding them to the fall décor inside.
