Birbs and Storms

Image
I finally got to see the baby American Avocets. I'll need to take my Canon down there to get a better look. Our presence there is really upsetting to the parents, so I limit how much time we spend there. While in Regina, we got a slow leak on a tire, so we had to leave it at Kal-Tire. We took a little walk and as gross as this little ravine was, it was nice to see baby duckies. We had to pick up some food our little Chocolate and while we there, I found treats for Bear. This cute little apple cinnamon cookie was devoured by our 160lb animal in about 2 seconds. The cookie was $3, so maybe not worth it. For something really different, I picked up some fish skin chews. They look disgusting, so I won't include a photo. Seeing that wee thing in the pond brought out some strong maternal instincts. I wanted to scoop up the wee thing and go put him with his Mommy or Daddy. Turns out, Mommy was just around the corner, so I needn't have worried. It was a ho

A Bit Of A Break

I wasn't going to address this topic here, but to try and ignore it would only add to the stigma and that will serve no one. Since being diagnosed with severe depression/anxiety at the end of April, I've been struggling to find my way to a path that will lead to healing. Medications are there to help, but at first complicate things and I am still at nearly the beginning of that process. The two biggest challenges I'm facing in this moment are first, making space to be alone so as to gain a better understanding of myself and second, being compassionate with myself. These are both foreign concepts to me. In the meantime, life carries on and I find good moments in among the difficult ones. A thing to celebrate is the garden that I fixed up in our firepit area. I didn't break my back doing it, and had enough energy to make a fire in the afternoon and sit and listen to music for hours. We even had a wiener roast when Kaitlynn got home from work. Bear Oh Bear...

Little Pleasures

Soots has taken to my lap whenever I'm putting my feet up downstairs. In this photo he's curled up into a little ball, but he often stretches out to his full length which seems impossibly long. Either way, he's adorable and warm. The SR is getting her once a year facial. It's wax time. Hopefully we can get all of the micro cat scratches out that the cats cause by climbing all over it. We've only had one fire this year, but it's so nice to just go sit in there. The trees are all filled in and it cozy and soothing.

A Exceptional Find

Image
It was a cold morning. Cold for June that is. Five degrees with a fairly strong wind that made it feel barely above freezing. But determined to start my day out with a positive, I slapped my headphones on, and out I went. There were even a few raindrops, but the fresh air was energizing. Of course, Bear enjoys walking in cooler weather far more than the heat. We were out for a lot longer than we normally would because Bob and Bruce stopped for a chat and then Bob stopped again after dropping Bruce off. The highlight of this walk were the Lady's Slippers. I haven't seen them in years, so it was a special sighting. These are considered a rare flower, so this a noteworthy glimpse of an uncommon plant.

Late Spring Ruminations

It is the perfect day for blogging a wee bit about the past several days. Yesterday, I got the yard looking it's finest by doing the trimming and mowing. Day before that it rained, and today it rained again, and is threatening more thundershowers this afternoon. And I'm tired. I worked hard yesterday to see the yard completed, but I think the real culprit of my fatigue is the ice cream cone I ate just before bed last night. I never sleep well on a full stomach, let alone a stomach full of sugar. Lesson learned? - Probably not.  With the freshness of the rain and all of the blossoms on the lilacs, caragana and fruit trees, the air outside is intoxicating. You start to take a breath in through your nose, and when you catch the scent, don't want to stop inhaling. One could damn near explode their lungs with the desire. The early morning walks to the pond with Bear are a joy. Life is overflowing there with all of the different birds peeping their little hearts when we get

Soots on the Loose

Image
Well, he wasn't really on the loose. I took Sooty to the greenhouse with me to enjoy a little fun time with my kitty among the plants. He was a little nervous at first, but once he got used to things, he relaxed and seemed to be enjoying himself. I think he especially loved the heat, and he really liked rolling in the gravel. It was probably a great massage.

Congratuations Kaitlynn!

It is beyond my understanding how the time has passed so quickly and we now have an, (very nearly) adult child.  A young graduate at the age of 17, high school was not particularly difficult for you Kaitlynn, although it had it's moments of frustration. Annoyance at having to do work that was not your first choice was most likely your most difficult hurtle. Also, the year or so before getting your license had it's depressing moments because you so desperately needed your freedom. You were born independent and I knew from early on that there would be trying times in situations where we had no choice but to hold you back. But we made it through as a tightly knit family and so that was my goal. It was always my goal to have a family that loved and supported each other through everything, and if we survived the teenage years, I would consider it a success. Of course, it doesn't end here. No matter where you go kiddo, we will always be here for you. When the school aske
