July Wrap-Up

Image
We picked Ethan up on the 27th and the original plan was that he would be going home today, but that has changed and now he might not have to go home until the 3rd!  The boys are having a fantastic time. They've been playing a lot on the computer and X-Box, but they've been having a ton of fun outdoors too. Jared has showed him how to use the scooter but what they have really been having fun with are the golf clubs. Hitting ball after ball off the top of the hill and then going to see how many they can find has filled in more than a few hours. The gardens are looking amazing.  All the watering has paid off and things are growing nicely. While doing chores this morning, I was shocked to see how many blooms are on the sugar pumpkins, bright pops of yellow/orange among the vines. The flower gardens are a joy to walk through, especially in the evening when the scents are at their strongest. A little piece of heaven all our own.

Half Way Through Summer

Kaitlynn has been getting a decent amount of hours and building up her new bank account. Happy for the money, also happy when there is a break in the schedule so as to leave time for friends. Our garden is producing all sorts of wonderfulness. I don't know if these watermelons will reach maturity, but they sure are cute at the moment. After reading a book that took place in a French vineyard, I was inspired to put together a meal of cheese and charcuterie. I was missing the crudites, but it was delicious anyway.  I created this lovely stone pathway to my little garden shed and I just love it. I go visit several times in a day. While in Saskatoon, we visited a basement shop below the used book store and found "Firefly" the board game. It's going to take a bit to catch on, but it's fun so far!

July Fun

The wine we bottle in July won't be ready until December or so, but we still have plenty of other wines left to carry us through summer. We have two kits here, one is a Chilean Merlot that was barrel aged. We've had this exact one before, but not barreled and loved it. The other is a Californian blend called Two Roads Red, and the sample was delicious! Jared and I visited the Lego City display at the Godfrey Dean, and loved it.  Lego never gets old. Ever.  The skies have often looked wicked around us, but we are not getting enough rain. There has been lots of watering needed. Weird garden ornaments. These were all made from kits. My favourite! There were several buildings from around Yorkton.

New Lights

I finally found a light for over the dining table.  I loved the style immediately and the price made in an easy decision. We ended up replacing the pendants over the island too.  I think they look great!

Dear Kaitlynn

You really weren't too excited about camp this year. It was way more fun last year when Grace came along. It crossed my mind to let you drop out, but last night you started feeling better about it and were even a little excited. So I'm glad I stuck to my find on this one. It wasn't easy leaving you in a parking lot with a bunch of strangers in the city, but I guess that is a feeling I'm going to have to get used to. It's not long now until you'll be going out on your own.  I hope you come home on Sunday feeling awesome, having had a fantastic time. Maybe you'll even collect more friends. I'm so impressed with how many friends you have already; you are one very likable person. Pretty canola fields in the way to Humbolt.

Fresh Goodness

It's finally here! Fresh produce from the garden season has arrived. It's yummy time. We've had fresh tomatoes from the greenhouse and a cucumber as well as a few strawberries, but now that there are potatoes, it's official. That's zucchini on the side too, and it looks as though there will be no shortage of that. I'm also harvesting beet leaves, romaine and swiss chard. Next will be peas and beans, then hopefully corn. The corn is looking very healthy.

Camp Time!

Jared was absolutely certain that he wanted to back to St. Michael's camp as soon as we picked him last year, and he did not change his mind.  He was very excited to go and eager to see us leave.  It was all I could do to get a photo and a hug. I'll definitely miss my monkey snuggles this week...(insert sad face). Pretty canola fields today on the way to Madge. Brand new bunks this year! Show those pearly whit chicouffs. Swings of death? Not for me.

Happy Twenty-First Honey

The day of our 21st wedding anniversary, it was a hot day and we headed into Regina for the evening for a stay at the Hotel Saskatchewan. We booked a deluxe suite for an extremely reasonable price and were very pleased with our accommodations. The room had 2 bathrooms, a living room and a bedroom with a king size bed. It was nicely decorated and very quiet.  The location is awesome too, with a very short walk to the Cornwall Center and all sorts of shops in between as well as a park. We enjoyed a lovely meal at The Copper Kettle and our breakfast in the hotel restaurant was wonderful too. Our walk this morning led us into a sizable farmer's market where we found some goodies and met the most adorable, unique doggie whose name is Ocean. What a sweetie too! On our way home, we stopped at Tim and Judy's cabin. Jared had come up with Loretta and so we joined him there. What a serene place they have with a beautiful view of the lake.    An unexpected

Flowers and Such

On our way to Regina having just dropped Kaitlynn at the fair and Jared is at home by himself for now, but Loretta will be with him later. Todd surprised me yesterday with this little trip and the plan is to stay at the Hotel Saskatchewan and go out for dinner. I'm not sure what else is planned, if anything.  The summer started off as usual with the Ostapovitch's getting together for Loretta's birthday. Her 50th! We got rained out of our plans for a wiener roast, so it was at the farm for a steak BBQ.  Walking has been fun with all the wildflowers in bloom, and Bear takes every opportunity to swim. Yesterday, Stephane came over and we took him and Jared to the fair and they had a great time. Kaitlynn went chummimg with Grace and Todd and I bummed around, finally making it to BackForty to enjoy a flight of beer. It's a great little place and I'm sure we'll be back.
