Back At It

Image
Tuesday the 23rd marked the official beginning of the farming season for us. Todd and I had our first tailgate picnic to break up his day of harrowing. It was a warm day, but the chill in the wind gave Mr. the opportunity to give Mrs. his jacket. Romantic as it was, we had to keep it short, as there is lots of work to be done. There is an interesting building in this field, one that is in the way of today's larger machinery. I thought it might be nice if we could move the old structure to our place, so after we kissed our goodbyes for the afternoon, I went to explore it. To my surprise, it was full of feathers and poop. Birds have been making their nests here for many years. I'm not sure cleaning it is possible, but moving an old log building with a cement floor seems even less possible. So it looks like it will likely be torn down one day, (sad face).

A Calm Day

Image
With all the leftovers from Easter Sumday, it makes sense to extend our holiday and our feasting by at least another day.  After another delightful lunch, the kiddos and I went out to enjoy a beautiful, rare, early Spring day.  It was taking Boots too much effort to keep up because, Kaitlynn says, "His legs are too short." So, she helped him out by giving him a much appreciated lift.  We moseyed around all over the yard, checking out what's coming up in the gardens and visiting the various sites in the yard.  The old vehicle graveyard is always on the list of places to go when walking about the farm. Just like their Dad, the kids imagine fixing up the various vehicles, many of which are beyond our skill to repair. We wrapped up our evening with a campfire, the first of the season. Unfortunately, the wind came up and it got a bit too cold for comfort, but we did manage to steal a couple of hours out there.

Little Gifts of Spring

Image
Crocus and Violas are blooming.  Other plants are starting too, like daylilies and silver mound. The transformation of the garden during the next few weeks is going to be exquisite!

Giant Squirrels

Image
They make them bigger at the farm!  And I didn't catch a photo of the one with the impressive tale.  These photos turned out blurrier than I thought, but they are still cute shots, so here you are.

Happy Easter!

Image
The kids were'nt too thrilled about the Easter Egg hunt this year, so it may very well have been the last one.  Jared has a cold that's sapping him of energy, and KK is taking loads of Ibuprophen that's making her drowsy, so that may have something to do with it.  All-in-all, we had a very nice Easter morning and thank-you to Grandma who continues to put on a wonderful breakfast even though she would much prefer to prepare a dinner!

Boots

Image
This kitty showed up, seemingly out of nowhere, and decided to stay.  Later on, we found out that he came from Garnet and Darlene Hansen's, and that left because the other kitties were mean to him. He has a very happy home here, and he especially loves when KK visits because she gives him all sorts of loving. He purrs like mad and the harder she rubs him, the happier he gets.

Fredton and New Gardens

Image
Laura Lynn made these little bunnies for the people in her life and Ang named hers Fredton.  Well, I liked that name so much that I'm calling the whole lot of them Fredton. They are the Fredton's.  The Fredton Gang. They were created and were promptly set loose in the world to spread love and joy. Yesterday, I spent some real time in my greenhouse, creating a couple of succulent gardens and transplanting the cardoons.  More things will be moving out as soon as I run out of room in the warm room, which should be soon, as there are more things that need planting and transplanting.

Meese

Image
If a goose is a goose and a moose is a moose, and two gooses are geese, then two mooses are meese. But NOOOOO... a goose is a goose; a moose is a moose; two gooses are geese, and two mooses are moose. No sense whatsoever! There was actually a third young moose to left in this photo, which was taken about 1/2 mile north up the road from our yard.  The one not in the photo, hid behind a tree, peeking out occasionally to sneak a glimpse of me.  One just continued eating, paying me no mind; that's the one on the left in the photo. The one on the right stared straight at me, curious or defiant, I'm not sure.   I parked the car on the side of the road, turned off the engine and sat there undisturbed for about 10 minutes before they decided they'd had enough of me, and trotted back into the trees, disappearing quickly.

Kaitlynn's Latest

Image
On Good Friday morning, Kaitlynn had that nasty tooth pulled out of her pallet.  She handled it like a champ!  Like she says, "I'm no weenie!" We all did have a little chuckle out of her when she came out and was a bit loopy.  She could not stop giggling and with gauze shoved in her mouth, it was a strange sight. It's two days after the surgery, and everything is looking good. She enjoyed her Easter breakfast this morning and is looking forward to spending the afternoon with friends tomorrow. She was a little miffed about not being able to spend the night yet, but we feel it's too soon to be partying. Rest is the key to healing, after all. KK doesn't do much sketching in pencil, but she certainly has the talent for it. I thought I'd include a snapshot of a note she left for me one evening before school.  I got a chuckle out of it.

Badminton

Jared told me that he probably wouldn't win, and he wasn't wrong, but he wasn't entirely right either. Out of his four guaranteed games, he won the last one, and then we went for a much needed supper. For a kid that has barely played, he was good.  With practice, Todd and I are thinking he could be very good.

Great Report Cards

Image
I anticipated that the kids would have good report cards, but it turned out they had fantastic report cards.  They've worked hard and so we gave them a little gift.  Triple lemon cake was on the menu. Kaitlynn received a bunch of "Pup" merchandise. Jared got puzzles and $50 spending cash.
