Harvest Begins

Image
Only a few days of swathing in, and the combines have been pulled out already.  At least one field of wheat is ready, so off they go!   Life is going to be awfully quiet around here with Todd in the field and the kiddos back at school on Tuesday. But with lots of cleaning up the yard this time of year, I'm sure I won't feel the loneliness too much.

A Great Finish

Jared spent his day playing on the tablet, Geometry Dash for the most part. It was broken up by a short bike ride around the yard, a visit from Dad who brought donuts and iced-capps, and a few episodes of Voltron with his sister. In the evening, Grandma, Grandpa and Uncle Glen joined us for some ice-cream cake.  That was that, and Jared's opinion, a day well spent.  It is not wasting time if you enjoyed it. And now for too many photos...

The Start of An Awesome Day

Happy 12th Birthday to our little Monkey!  Today is all about you, Jared. We celebrate because the world became a better place the day you entered it.  You have brought so much joy into our lives. I hope you have an incredible day, a subtle reflection of the happiness you bring to our home.   The day kicks off with the surprise of how the house is decorated for you. I chose "Woodsticks" as the theme this year, a special symbol in our household. I made you a felted monkey, (spell-check tried to auto-correct that to melted monkey which would ever so sad) and you fell in love with him.  May he always be a reminder of my love for you. Kaitlynn got up, and gave you a pair of pizza socks before going downstairs to take in a couple episodes of Voltron. After that, we'll see. It's too bad that Dad can't be here (swathing wheat) to celebrate with us.  Hopefully he gets home early tonight so we can have the entire evening together.

A Better Day

It's just one of those days that feels easier somehow.  I don't really think it is, but it feels simplified compared to other days, especially yesterday. Made cookies in the morning and remembered to pack chairs for a much more enjoyable field picnic. The beef is cooking for tonight's stew and there is paint drying on an awesome project in the shop. Kiddos are doing their thing.  KK continues to build on her awesome sticker collection. They are all so fantastic!  I would love to have each and every one of them. Jared is keeping cool in the basement and enjoying his new show - Dilbert. Unfortunately, Todd is getting sore eyes and sore back from being on the swather all day.  I guess he could have still been in an air-conditioned office, but he must hate this at least a little bit less.  Lots of love to you Honey for all you do for us in a day.

Busy Blogging Day

This is my third post here today.  I've been looking back through my camera and have realized just how much I've missed.  There was also Brenda and Stephen's wedding at the end of July, but I'll have to go downstairs for that one.   Firstly, of course I had to take a photo when these two walked out of the house wearing the same t-shirt.  That concert was 6 years ago, and Jared finally fits into his gift.  I should mention that Kaitlynn loves Defy Leppard too. Ok, seriously Honey, that is way too many chocolate Cheerios.  But, if you insist on pigging out, at least get a bigger bowl!     A new store opened up in Yorktown, right next to the Plum Tree on Betts.  It's called "The Cardboard Armoury" and we picked up a couple of new games.  The one we're learning here is called "SmallWorld Underground," and it's not a bad little game. I don't know what is going on here, but I'm on my way to Grandma's raspber

Harvest Begins

Here's Big Daddy O out on his swather for the first time this year, and so it starts - Harvest. The busiest, and favourite time of the year. We kicked it off right and had our first field picnic. I even baked bread this morning for the special occasion and everyone wanted peanut butter because apparently that is how you serve fresh bread.     The kiddos did some work cleaning up around the driveway and helped picked a few weeds from the gardens.  It is so very dry out there - the pumpkins are wilting.  I tried the sprinkler, but the water isn't getting to the roots, so although I'm trying very hard to take it easy today, I'm going to have to go out and soak them directly with the hose. Should take a couple of hours.  Oh well, if we don't get a frost, I won't regret it.   KK hasn't asked for sticker paper in years, but just look what's been created today! The black kitty is Sooty and was a gift for me.  I just love the minis she made to ma

Cuteness and Yum Yums

Going back a little bit here, but at least I'm within the same month.  Kaitlynn has several friends, all of which like to get together outside of school.  Jared has friends, of course, but getting together isn't something they do very often, so it often feels unfair.  But, let's not be feeling sorry for him, because he gets a little spoiled while Kaitlynn is away.  Here we are at the mall indulging in something neither of us needs,  a dessert croissant.  I do not know how they pack so many calories into something that weighs as much as air, and I just picked a 5 pound zucchini that would maybe give 100 calories when cooked in a bit of butter! I can't believe how he dived into this thing and he was in dire need of a sink afterward.     I can never get enough pictures of my sleeping kitties, but when Sooty turns himself upside-down like this and his teeth are sticking out, it's too much cute to ignore.      And pumpkin pie! I could eat this entire
