In Memory Of a Beautiful Friend

Image
Talk about Hell Week. Root canal on Saturday, Mark gets sent back to Calgary from Regina on Monday morning due to Covid-19, school gets cancelled Monday afternoon, and then Crushy really starts to fall ill and dies on Friday morning (March20th). It can only go up from here, right?  But anyway, what to say about this kitty that showed up in our yard the summer we moved in? Well, first of all, having been raised by his mother outside well into the winter, he was about the fluffiest little thing you can imagine. Good God! - he was a cutie. I tried to get him into the house by grabbing him off the deck one day. We had a heated house for the cats on the deck. Crush, his Mama and an old Tom we called Goliath used it. We assume Goliath was Daddy. Well, like most cats, things have to happen on their own terms, and when I grabbed him, he bit down very hard on my thumb. So hard, that I dropped him and he ran off. I kept feeding them and keeping an eye on them, and then one day, close to...

A Full Saturday

Todd is combining peas while Glen is swathing canola. Fred is hauling for Todd and Diana took in some of Sunflower and then who knows what, probably yard work. Kaitlynn took a road trip to Regina with a group of friends. Jared and I stayed home and got some stuff done. Here is Crushy playing peek-a-boo, and if that's not cute, I don't know what is. My orchid is doing a lovely job of blooming. It has more blooms on it then when Todd brought it home as a gift for me. It is so rewarding to have nurtured it back to this state. Now I have to figure out how to repot it and continue to keep it happy When I woke Kaitlynn up yesterday morning for school, I noticed this wonderful new piece of art on her wall. She had done it from start to finish the previous night, and of course I swooned over it. Not only is it a black cat, but it is my little black cat - Sooty! Todd had to run in for parts this morning and so I accompanied him for some time together. I did not g...

Pickles and a Couple Other Things

Image
I got around to making 21 jars of pickles this year. Just your basic garlic dills and I made a few pints of dilled carrots as well. This should b enough for us to eat as well as be able to give away a few as gifts. Yes, pickles make great gifts. When A&W had their MS support day, we went out and each of us enjoyed our Teenburgers. It was very busy in there! Crushy has been going downhill. His mood has been good and he's eating fine. But, he coughs a lot more and wheezes often. Sometimes, he even pants, which is very hard to watch. He still seems to be enjoying life though and so we continue to give him medicine and plenty of Love.

Feeding Time

Image
It's the exact same scene twice a day, first when they come in from the garage in the morning and again in the middle of the afternoon. We, myself and the the 3 kitties head to the bathroom where Sooty gets fed. There he does his little dance against the door frame and I gush over him every time because this never gets old, then I feed him and call Crush and Georgia to follow. Georgia is usually way ahead while Crush usually needs more coaxing and time to lick the showers edge. Once in the  kitchen, it is Georgia's turn. She always points with her nose to her empty bowl, showing me where to put her food, which is very helpful. Crushy watches closely and then quickly turns around and meows until his bowl gets the same treatment.  At about 2pm, they all congregate in the kitchen. Sooty often making weird noises and everyone staring at me until the above procedure us repeated. Everyday. And I look forward to these 3 goofballs everyday.

Pets

Bear had to make his yearly trip to the vet this morning, and he did a good job. I can hardly believe he's nearly 7 years old already. The vet says that is very old for a dog his size. But we feel he is very healthy and don't think of him as old.  And then there are these kitties. Sooty is so weird. This little gathering happens in the kitchen everyday at about 2pm. They just sit and stare at me until I feed them. Sooty makes really strange noises to get my attention. It's alwaua entertaining.

Off to a Good Start

Some time ago, Kaitlynn finished her dog mask and it is amazing. She used a baseball cap, cardboard and her old wolf Halloween mask for the base. The due is from various clothing pieces we found at Value Village. The teeth were crafted out of polymer clay and look incredibly realistic. She hinged the jaw and so set it up so it moves when she talks and the eyes are made out of one way screening, so she can see out, but you can't see in. There was a lot of time spent and a lot of hot glue - but what a great mask! I couldn't be more of her dedication and her quality of work. Amazing. Sooty's bad habit has him in love with fuzzy blankets.  He pulled this one off of Kaitlynn's bed and onto his favourite part of the floor in the house - a part where the in floor heating is always on. Rocks I painted to give to Amy and Ang. Just part of the gift I got from my Dad - Ang picked them out. Elise made me this and it just so cute how she was making everyone...

Goodies Galore

We had a lot of fun, and a lot of sugar on the afternoon we decorated our graham cracker houses.  I assembled them in the morning to let them set up and then each of did two, except for Jared, he did 2 and a half counting the little a-frame shack. I've also been baking - puppy chow, shortbread, gingersnaps and sugar cookies are all in tins in the freezer.  I also made a batch of chocolate chip cookies and beaver houses for the Christmas concert. Kaitlynn wanted to feel like royalty... Crushy always feels like royalty. I set my nativity for the first time in years, so far so good - the kitties have left it alone. Snow Doggo Big Red Egg - always a favourite. Still waiting for more snow to make this purchase worthwhile. I didn't think I'd enjoy the "Cities and Knights" expansion for Settlers, but it's quite a lot of fun. I'm dreaming of a plaid Christmas. Todd had to turn off the po...
