Roadside Visit

Image
If a cat is on the side of the road and hasn't completely disappeared when the car comes near, it is damn near impossible to convince Kaitlynn not to stop and give it some love. This was the case with kitten that lives somewhere near (maybe with) my cousin on the Springside grid. What a cute, and friendly this little one is. A lovely tortoiseshell that made us a few minutes late meeting Aunty Booboo in Springside. Aunty completely understood. Of course.

The kids have been back at it (school) for a week now. Things are going well. It's odd to see them getting on and off the bus together, but nice. Sad to think it's their last year living at home together though. Heartbreaking for me actually, and I try not to dwell on it too much. Instead, I'm cleaning house and finding all sorts of housewares for Kaitlynn's eventual apartment. The homework load has been light thus far, and Jared starts piano today. He's really not super excited about that, but I know he'll fall right back into it. He writes his Grade 6 theory in December.

A Full Saturday

Todd is combining peas while Glen is swathing canola. Fred is hauling for Todd and Diana took in some of Sunflower and then who knows what, probably yard work. Kaitlynn took a road trip to Regina with a group of friends. Jared and I stayed home and got some stuff done. Here is Crushy playing peek-a-boo, and if that's not cute, I don't know what is. My orchid is doing a lovely job of blooming. It has more blooms on it then when Todd brought it home as a gift for me. It is so rewarding to have nurtured it back to this state. Now I have to figure out how to repot it and continue to keep it happy When I woke Kaitlynn up yesterday morning for school, I noticed this wonderful new piece of art on her wall. She had done it from start to finish the previous night, and of course I swooned over it. Not only is it a black cat, but it is my little black cat - Sooty! Todd had to run in for parts this morning and so I accompanied him for some time together. I did not g...

Bear and The Garden

Image
These two things together, Bear and my garden(s), give me so much joy. Bear has been slowing down as of late, a trend I hope to see improve when the weather truly cools. But he is over seven years old now, and his poor hips have been a problem his entire life.  That said, when he's out in the garden with me, he often acts like a puppy - rolling and frolicking in the grass, asking for belly rubs. Or, if I'm picking tomatoes, he gets very excited, tomatoes and peas are his two favourite things and you mustn't be picking and not sharing with doggo. It's better he sits and waits for you to hand it to him, or he'll help himself and clean off entire plants. Leaves are just starting to turn and fall. I don't think they would be falling yet if it hadn't been such a dry year, but I just love when there are leaves on the ground, so I'm not complaining. Just as long as Fall takes it's time, and lingers on for 2 or even 3 months. ...

I Wish

Image
I wish that all days with homework pass by as easily as today. Both kids came with work to do, and both tackled it without whining and better yet, with some enthusiasm. Kaitlynn got hers out of the way right after school, and Jared took care of his right after dinner. It is only day three of the new school year, and it's almost Friday, and it's been a short week, so maybe it's too much to wish for, but I wish anyway. Kaitlynn's job was to personalize her Christian Ethics journal. Jared had an ELA assignment that I didn't quite understand.

Pickles and a Couple Other Things

Image
I got around to making 21 jars of pickles this year. Just your basic garlic dills and I made a few pints of dilled carrots as well. This should b enough for us to eat as well as be able to give away a few as gifts. Yes, pickles make great gifts. When A&W had their MS support day, we went out and each of us enjoyed our Teenburgers. It was very busy in there! Crushy has been going downhill. His mood has been good and he's eating fine. But, he coughs a lot more and wheezes often. Sometimes, he even pants, which is very hard to watch. He still seems to be enjoying life though and so we continue to give him medicine and plenty of Love.

Puzzling

Image
Jared has several of these puzzles that call themselves 4D.  The 4 stands for the time dimension and there is a map of each building and the year it was built. Toronto was the first one he received and we even mounted that one and had it on display in his room for a long time. Next he got Las Vegas, Tokyo and New York. New York, by far, had the most buildings and even though it was smaller than the others, took the longest time to put together. They are currently, carefully organized into large chunks into their boxes so he can easily rebuild them when he feels like it.
